Custom redirect: one simple trick to make productivity extensions more effective
Many of the productivity extensions will block or limit your time on “undesired” productivity wasting sites by redirecting you away from them.
But redirect you to what instead?
Usually it’s an extension page. On that page it will explain to you, hey “you got blocked”. Sometimes it will urge you to donate/upgrade the extension and usually it will also provide an easy way to edit your settings.
Which is a trap....
watchlimits: side panel
When you watch video online you might want to keep an eye on the time watched and your limits so you don’t get surprised.
Watchlimits has a convenient popup that you can pin to your browser toolbar, but clicking it every now and then to see the time watched and limits might be a bit annoying.
This is why we added a convenient side panel to watchlimits that will display on the sites where watchlimits is running!...
Watchlimits: what about educational content? Introducing allowed channels
Some of the worlds best educational content is on YouTube, if it’s productive it shouldn’t count against the watch time limits in watchlimits!
You are right, YouTube videos are not for entertainment only. It wouldn’t be fair if watching a lecture counted against your fun budget!
To cover this need, watchlimits is releasing “Allowed channels”. It’s available in watchlimits 0.0.10 and above.
How it works? There is a new section in the settings called “YouTube integration” and you can add allowed channels there....
watchlimits update: accounts and premium
The latest update to watchlimits introduces watchlimits accounts! Should you care? Maybe…
Watchlimits will continue to work even if you don’t have an account or if you aren’t logged in.
There is a new tab: “Account” where you can find links to create a new account and log in. You can even buy a subscription to watchlimits to use premium features.
The problem is that there aren’t any premium features yet… so basically the only motivation right not to pay is to create a sunk cost to prevent yourself from uninstalling the extension :D....
watchlimits: when you are running out of your time limit
No one likes to be brutally interrupted while they are watching and relaxing.
But, sometimes enough is enough and we need to be stopped from wasting our precious time. Latest update to Watch Limits makes this experience a bit easier.
New limit cutoff experience The basic idea is that the extension will first start with a warning, instead of redirecting as soon as you run out of the limit.
You can dismiss the warning and keep watching up to a minute while your screen gently dims… or you can stop watching here and there....
